Kingdom 1795

Craftsmanship in the Kingdom of Kerry

Description:

Kingdom 1795 originally “The Old Kingdom Bar” is located in the heart of Killorglin town, Co. Kerry. Our role in the project was to provide solutions to a myriad of challenges that pertained to panelling and fitting out a rubble built walled building. In doing so, we had to provide a working bar, cocktail area and extensive areas of timber panelling to provide an end product that was in keeping with the client's and designer's brief. The finished project needed to reflect the ethos of the client and the care and consideration of detail of the designer.

The project was challenging in so many areas. We hand scribed the panels to the rubble walls, each end panel carefully cut to the shape. Complex challenges in relation to the integration of the new stairs into the interface of the bar and restaurant had to be resolved whilst maintaing our standards of craftsmanship. On completion and fitting the panelling was then hand painted on site. This task alone took over 350 man hours.

The building was first leased in 1795 so bringing elements of the building's history into the design was paramount to the overall finish.
